Free Pattern (men's top down simple sweater)

4mm circular needle(2), marker(4), yarn (12 skeins of Debbi Bliss Rialto DK : 105m/50g)

optional : 3.5mm circular needle(2), 4.5m needle

Gauge : 22 stitches, 30 rows to 10cm/4 inches

Finished size : 112cm finished sweater at bust

 

 

 

With 3.5mm circular needle, long tail cast on 104.

Divide the stitches evenly between 2 circular needles and join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches around the needle.

Ribbing round : *K1, p1 ; repeat from * to end of round.

Repeat Ribbing round 6 times more.

 

 

Yoke

Set up round : Switching to 4mm circular needles, k24, pm, k4, pm, k48, pm, k4, pm, k24.

Row 1 : * K to 1 st before M, M1R, k1, slm, k1, M1L ; repeat from * once more, k1, W&T.

Row 2 : * P to M, slm ; repeat from * once more, p to end, * p to 1 st before M, M1L, p1, slm, p1, M1R ; repeat from * once more, p1, W&T.

 

Row 3 : * K to M, slm ; repeat from * once more, k to end, * k to 1 st before M, M1R, k1, slm, k1, M1L ; repeat from * once more, k to wrapped st, pick up the wrap, W&T.

Row 4 : * P to M, slm ; repeat from * once more, p to end, * p to 1 st before M, M1L, p1, slm, p1, M1R ; repeat from * once more, p to wrapped st, pick up the wrap, W&T.

Repeat the last 2 rows(Row 3, 4) once more.

 

Row 7 : * K to M, slm ; repeat from * once more, k to end, * k to 1 st before M, M1R, k1, slm, k1, M1L ; repeat from * once more, k to wrapped st, pick up the wrap, k1, W&T.

Row 8 : * P to M, slm ; repeat from * once more, p to end, * p to 1 st before M, M1L, p1, slm, p1, M1R ; repeat from * once more, p to wrapped st, pick up the wrap, p2, W&T.

 

Repeat the last 2 rows (Row 7, 8) 2 times more.

 

Next : * K to M, slm ; repeat from * once more, k to end.

Round 13 : * K to 1 st before M, M1R, k1, slm, k1, M1L ; repeat from * once more, *k to wrapped st, pick up the wrap ; repeat from * once more, * k to 1 st before M, M1R, k1, slm, k1, M1L ; repeat from * once more, k to end.

 

Round 14 : k all stitches. (k 160)

Round 15 (increase) : * K to 1 st before M, M1R, k1, slm, k1, M1L ; repeat from * 3 times more, k to end.

 

Repeat the last 2 rounds(Round 14 and 15) 12 times more.

You have 264 stitches. (back 88, front 88, sleeve 44)

 

Round 40, 41, 42 : Knit all stitches.

Round 43 : [ Knit to 1 st before M, M1R, k1, slm, k1, M1L ] 4 times, k to end.

 

Repeat the last 4 rounds(Round 40, 41, 42, 43) 12 times more.

You have 368 stitches. (back 114, front 114, sleeve 70)

 

 

Separate sleeves from the body

 

Separate round : * K to M, rm, place sleeve stitches(70) between two markers on waste yarn, rm, co 10 stitches ; repeat from * once more, k to end.

K until piece measures 14.5 inches from underarm or 2 inches short of desired length.

Change to 3.5mm needles and work in 1X1 rib(k1, p1) for 2 inches.

Bind off loosely in pattern. 

 

 

Sleeves

 

Place sleeve stitches on two 4mm circular needles.

Sleeve set up : Pick up 5 sts on left side of 10 sts you had co previously while separating sleeves from body, pick up 1 more st between co sts and sleeve sts, k70, pick up 1 st between sleeve sts and co sts, and pick up 5 sts on right side of 10 sts you had co previously.

 

Next round : K5, k2tog, k to last 7 sts, ssk, k5. (80 sts)

 

Knit round : K all stitches.

Repeat knit round 16 times more.

Decrease round : K2, k2tog, k to last 4 sts, ssk, k to end. (2 stitches decrease)

 

[ Knit round(k all sts) 9 times and decrease round 1 time ] X 9. (90 rounds)

 

Knit round(k all sts) 7 times and decrease round 1 time. (8 rounds)

 

Knit round 6 times.(6 rounds)

 

Change to 3.5mm needles and work in 1X1 rib(k1, p1) for 1.75 inches.

 

Bind off loosely in pattern.

 

Weave in all ends and block sweater.
